POPULAR ROUTE: 9-10 Day Tanzania Highlights (Depart/Return Arusha, Tanzania)

Observe the more subtle nuances of wildlife behavior, expertly noted by your local guides and professional trackers. Explore all the great wildlife regions of northern Tanzania: Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the famed Serengeti. Discover the smaller denizens of the bush on a thrilling walking safari, where you can learn the ancient skills of tracking and identifying spoor. Descend into the most unique caldera in the world: Ngorongoro Crater often called the Eden of Africa.

1

Day 1

After breakfast, depart Arusha to Lake Manyara Park for game viewing. You’ll have a pack lunch in the park, and continue the game drive until the evening. Overnight at a lodge of your choice (we have recommendations).
2

Day 2

After breakfast we’ll begin the journey towards the famous Serengeti Plains via Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We’ll have lunch en route or bring a pack lunch. The afternoon will be spent with a game drive around Seronera. If your trip coincides with the Great Migration, we can also follow the animals in their migration.

NB: Wildebeest Migration Seasons:
The Wildebeest Migration in East Africa, also known as “The Great Migration” takes place between Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Masai Mara and is one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on the planet. Thousands of wildebeest and zebra’s migrate between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara, constantly driven by their search for fresh grazing. The massive herds are closely followed by predators (lion, hyena and cheetah), making the most of every opportunity to catch their next meal.

The precise timing of the annual wildebeest migration depends on the rains. It is a very unpredictable and spontaneous natural event, with calving season taking place in the Serengeti between January and mid-March. The wildebeest migration starts to head towards the Western Serengeti in May or June. In mid-January to February, much to mid April, 95% of females of wildebeest mate to a total of 600,00 then 8 to 8.5 months later those females that conceived give birth on the same southern plains after a long travel.

3

Day 3

After breakfast we’ll begin the all day game drive in the central and eastern parts of the Serengeti. We’ll have a pack lunch during the drive and enjoy dinner at your lodge / campsite.
4

Day 4

After breakfast we’ll begin the game drive through the southern section of the Serengeti. This section of the park is filled with animals. Approximately 1.3 million wildebeest, 250,000 gazelles and 200,000 Zebras have been recorded sharing the short grass/ water here.
5

Day 5

Today we head towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Depending on your route, we can pass the Oldupai Gorge, a historical site where early man lived. We can also pass by the Maasai boma if you are interested in the real African life tradition and culture. We’ll have lunch en route and reach the rim of the crater for dinner.
6

Day 6

After breakfast we’ll descend to the crater floor with your lunchbox for game viewing. The famous Ngorongoro Crate is rich of wildlife. You’ll have a picnic lunch at the floor of the crater very near the Lerai forest and hippo pool.

NB: Like many parks, the time of year you visit plays a huge role in what animals you can see. For example, a great time to visit the crater is during November and December. In late April in to May you’ll see many animals out grazing in the green grass from the fall rains. Animals love this time of year because they have more shade to hide in. Since many visitors want to see the rare species (ex. the Black rhino), spring is a great time to visit.

7

Day 7

After breakfast we’ll leave with your lunch box to Tarangire Park for a game drive. Here you’ll be surrounded by elephants and Baobab Trees. Keep your cameras ready because these are the famous photo opps everyone visualizes when they think of Africa!
8

Day 8

Enjoy a restful day at your accommodation. We’ll reenter Tarangire for an evening game drive before another restful evening.
9

Day 9

After breakfast we’ll leave Tarangire and drive back to Arusha. There is an optional stop at Meserani Snake Park for a visit and/or souvenir shopping. Just ask us about the right places to buy. We’ll arrive in Arusha in the evening.
