ACTIVITIES Motorbike Safari

These ‘Mountains of the Moon’ lie in western Uganda along the Congo border. While other destinations allow you to see these mountains from afar, this park allows you to climb them. Skilled climbers can tackle them in 9-12 days (sometimes less depending on your experience) while others can try a less intensive hike up part of the slope. In addition to mammals and birds, some of the rarest vegetation on the earth calls these slopes their home.

If you plan on climbing, please be aware that the higher peaks are for experienced climbers. You will need experience on glaciers, etc. At all stages of the climb you’ll have experienced guides/porteres helping you.

While climbing, you’ll have huts, food, porters, and beds. Security is provided by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Porters carry a maximum of 12.5 kg of personal gear.

Gear you’ll need in addition to general clothing:
• Climbing Rope(s)
• Harness(es)
• Ice Axe
• Crampons
• Sleeping bags
• Rubber gum boots with heavy socks (for the peak) – Luxury hiking boots aren’t necessary at the top
