ACTIVITIES Waterfall Hike, Riverboat Cruise, Rhino Sanctuary, Game Drive

Easily our best selling trip after our city tour and gorilla tracking, Murchison Falls never fails to deliver. If you can’t afford the gorilla permit, this is your best choice for a game drive. Situated at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley (aka the Western Rift, and the sister to the more famous Eastern Rift Valley in Kenya), Murchison is Uganda’s oldest and largest conservation area.

Be amazed at the sheer number of animals on display, including 76 species of mammals and 451 birds.  Add on a visit to Murchison Falls, the world’s most powerful waterfalls, and you’ll be thrilled at the photos you’ll take.

Day 1

Drive to Murchison Falls National Park, 6 hours north of Kampala.  En route we can stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for an optional rhino tracking and rhino viewing. We’ll eat lunch en route and arrive in Murchison in time for a short hike to the strongest waterfalls in the world, Murchison Falls. We’ll then head to your lodging for some rest and relaxation. If you aren’t too tired, we can have an evening game drive before exiting the park and driving to your lodge.

Day 2

After breakfast, enjoy the great safari experience (game drive) of Murchison Falls National Park. Murchison is Uganda’s largest national park and is spread around the Nile. It is lush with natural beauty, so looking for the Big 5 from the comfort of our 4WD is enjoyable.

Safari Fact: In Africa, the big five game animals are the lion, African elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. The term “Big Five” was coined by big- ancient game hunters and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot using traditional tools.

After lunch (ca. 2 pm) we’ll exit land and enter water. Enjoy a boat ride on the Nile to see the famous waterfalls from another angle. You’ll be surrounded by crocodiles and hippos, so, leave your bathing suit at home! Enjoy another evening falling asleep to the sounds of elephants.

Day 3

After breakfast we’ll begin the 340 km* drive back to Kampala. We expect to be in Kampala at the end of the day around 4 pm.

*The return trip can travel one of three routes: via Lake Albert/Rift Valley, via Budongo Forest to go chimp tracking, or via Karuma Falls.  Contact us to determine the best route for your needs.
