ACTIVITIES Gorilla Tracking, Hiking

Gorillas share 98% DNA with humans, and seeing them in the natural habitat is an honor. Uganda is so very proud to be home to these amazing animals!

Gorilla permits are expensive. There is no easy way to put this and there is simply no negotiating anyone can do to bring down the price. That written, these are an endangered species. Protecting them takes a lot of money and space. It’s an honor to visit them as they are guaranteed to take your breath away. If you do wish to save some money, permits are discounted in November. You can read more about dates and locations here.

1

Day 1

Depart Kampala and drive to Lake Bunyonyi (8-10 hours). En route you can opt for a few stops:
• The equator to see the water experiment in action
• Lake Mburo National Park. It’s small, but it’s great. Enjoy a bicycle safari amid zebras and/or enter the park to see zebras, impalas, elands, topis, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, buffaloes etc. No lions or elephants here.

Opt to stay in Lake Mburo for the evening or continue on to Lake Bunyonyi.

2/3

Day 2 or 3

Day depends on whether you stay in Lake Mburo on day 1 or drive straight to Lake Bunyonyi.

From Lake Bunyonyi it’s about a 1-2 hour drive to reach the briefing point for your gorilla visit. Where we go depends on which troop we are tracking, and that depends on your fitness level. Ruhija is the closest family to Bunyonyi, while other families (Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga, Nsonji) are further. We’ll discuss which troop is best for you when you are booking.

Read more about gorilla tracking and our recommendations here.

3/4

Day 3 or 4

(Again the day depends on your decision on day 1)
Begin our drive back to Kampala and stop en route in Lake Bunyonyi. The drive has spectacular views and we highly recommend stopping for lunch to enjoy them. You can opt to take a guided walk around the lake and/or visit some islands on the lake. We can return to Kampala late this evening or overnight here.
