Tree climbing lions, crater lakes and the Rwenzori Mountains? This is the trip for you! Another of our very popular trips, it makes a great addition to other routes and can be on it’s own (average 4-5 days).

Fort Portal is an amazing little city. It’s considered the Switzerland of Uganda. Based at the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, this is popular destination for locals and tourists alike. Get ready to slow down from the hustle of Kampala and enjoy hikes and a relaxed vibe.

Queen Elizabeth is home to the second greatest family of mammals in Uganda after Murchison Falls National Park. It is hard not to appreciate its expansive 2000sq km landscape complete with views of the Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Edward, Lake George, Kazinga Channel and even Congo.

• Enjoy chimp tracking in Kibale National Park
• Have your camera ready for photos of the Albertine Rift (the Western Rift Valley)
• Keep your eyes peeled for tree climbing lions
• Swim in crater lakes and take in healing waters
• PERFECT trip for families. Just ask!

Day 1

Drive to Fort Portal in the far west of Uganda (approx. 5-6 hours). This area is green, lush, and covered in crater lakes. It is a great getaway for locals and tourists alike. We recommend relaxing in town or at your accommodation. Our favorite place is basic but entertaining with a private crater lake to swim in and lots of monkeys to keep you entertained!

Day 2

After breakfast, explore the region on foot or bike. We recommend adding a visit to the Nyinamwiru Healing Waters to your trip. Want to see primates? This is the day we can take you for forest walks and chimp tracking in nearby Kibale National Park. No matter what you’ll do, you’ll want to relax this evening before our drive tomorrow.
3

Day 3

After breakfast we begin the scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. En route prepare for stunning views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the Albertine Rift Valley (the Western Rift). Depending on when we leave Fort Portal, it is possible we can even get there in time for the afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel (highly recommended).  After the cruise you’ll enjoy an evening game drive as we head towards your accommodation.

Day 4

Enjoy an early AM game drive before returning for breakfast. After breakfast you can either re-enter the park for another game drive or go chimp tracking in Kyambura Gorge. Alternatively, you can decide to do the boat cruise this day. Enjoy another evening at your chosen accommodation resting and relaxing for the long drive back to Kampala tomorrow.

Day 5

After breakfast we’ll get on the road back to Kampala. This can be an 8 hour drive, so pack a good book.

Note: This is where many people choose to add on the gorillas or hiking. This definitely adds on time so please contact us for details.
