ACTIVITIES Whitewater Rafting, Source of Nile Cruise, Hiking

Just 1.5 hours east of Kampala you’ll be able to relax and get your adrenaline fix if you want. Jinja is the source of the River Nile. You can visit this on a calm riverboat cruise or you can experience the power by whitewater rafting with our partner, the #1 rafting company on the Nile, Nalubale Rafting. These rapids are disappearing soon (some say by 2019 latest) so you don’t have much time to try them out. In addition to rafting or the cruise, you can also float down the river on a tube, enjoy standup paddle boarding (SUP), horseback riding, or simply relax. Jinja is definitely an outdoors kind of place where relaxing is taken very seriously!

Approximately 4 hours north of Jinja you’ll find Sipi Falls and Mt. Elgon National Park. Get ready to see the very eastern edge of the Eastern Rift Valley. Views are breathtaking, the weather is crisp and refreshing, and you can either hike or relax or both. Not to be missed: the coffee. We personally make sure to pick up a few kgs on every trip to feed our caffeine addiction back in Kampala!

In both Jinja and Sipi, you’ll be outdoors a lot of the time. We highly recommend you pack sunscreen, anti-malarials, protective clothing/hats and charged electronics. The sun is very strong here in Uganda, and we can’t overestimate how important it is that you are protected!
